Engineer Graduate Software Engineer at Canonical

Graduate software engineer contributes to open source projects across Linux, cloud infrastructure, containers, and security in various programming languages.

Junior Remote Posted 34 minutes ago RemoteFirstJobs Product
What this role involves

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is very widely used in breakthrough enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. Our customers include the world’s leading public cloud and silicon providers, and industry leaders in many sectors. The company is a pioneer of global distributed collaboration, with 1200+ colleagues in 75+ countries and very few office-based roles. Teams meet two to four times yearly in person, in interesting locations around the world, to align on strategy and execution.

The company is founder led, profitable and growing.

We are hiring 2025 and 2026 Graduate Software Engineers into engineering teams around the world. As a global platform company we offer a wide range of software engineering challenges, in both open source products and commercial business systems. We have teams that work in a variety of languages, typically Python, Golang, Rust, C/C++, JavaScript and of course… Bash. We work from the very lowest levels of the Linux system - BIOS and boot loaders, firmware, kernel and drivers, all the way up to desktop applications and containers. We work on tiny devices like the Raspberry Pi and new RISC-V boards, all the way up to supercomputers, clouds and Kubernetes clusters. We work on compilers and toolchains, and we work on security, cryptography, performance and documentation. Some of our teams focus on packaging thousands of pieces of software, others focus on deep contributions to a single body of code.

If you are excited about the potential that open source has for humanity and the enterprise, you have outstanding results in your academic career, and you are excited to contribute to the open source stack, this is the best way to apply to Canonical. We will work with you to identify teams and projects that would be interesting and a good fit for your skills and motivations. The process is highly competitive, it will require effort and excellence to succeed if you apply here.

Most of our engineering teams work from home. We try to align a single team in a single time zone - EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa), APAC (Asia Pacific and Indian Ocean), and AMER (North, South and Central Americas). Even though you work from home, we try to ensure you always have colleagues alongside to coach and mentor you, and for the companionship of shared problem solving and pair programming. Larger projects have multiple teams and might span the globe. We work with the open source community and specialize in building teams that work well in the ‘fishbowl’ of open source engineering. This is full time work, five days a week, often solving hard problems with significant responsibility. We don’t generally work weekends and nights and we do enjoy good holidays but we also expect productive and intense engagement Monday to Friday.

We bring all our engineering teams together in person twice a year for a deep ‘sprint’ with other teams to stimulate discussion and enable a wide range of career development paths. This is a fantastic way to demonstrate and develop your skill in software, learn about a wide range of technologies, make a meaningful impact to open source, and see some very interesting new cities that you might never otherwise get to visit.

If you find the open source stack amazing, and you have been a consistent high-performing student in your school and university, then this will be a challenging and exciting start to your career.

Location: This is a Globally remote role.

The role entails

  • Shaping the roadmap for your product at global sprints every six months
  • Focusing on design and user experience, even for developer tooling and command line apps
  • Writing high quality, resilient and performant code, potentially serving millions of demanding daily users

  • Engaging with users and the open source community through code reviews and issue trackers
  • Responding to customer issues as a priority, develop an understanding of enterprise requirements
  • Developing skills and awareness of security in software design and implementation

What we are looking for in you

  • Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Business Informatics, Mathematics or another STEM discipline with programming courses
  • Confidence to get started and deliver high quality code in one of Python, Rust, C/C++, Golang, JavaScript or Java
  • Experience with Ubuntu or another Linux distribution
  • Track record of going above-and-beyond expectations to achieve outstanding results
  • Result-oriented and organized, with the drive to meet commitments
  • Personal projects in technology and software engineering beyond the curriculum
  • Professional written and spoken English
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability
  • Personal responsibility and accountability
  • Thoughtfulness, self-awareness and the ability to reflect and develop
  • Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events up to two weeks long

Nice-to-have skills

  • Upstream open source contributions
  • Packaging and Linux distribution contributions - Debian, Fedora, Arch, Nix or another
  • Leadership and organization skills
  • Presentation and writing skills
  • Business and commercial interests

What we offer colleagues

We consider geographical location, experience, and performance in shaping compensation worldwide. We revisit compensation annually (and more often for graduates and associates) to ensure we recognize outstanding performance. Why Join Relay?

  • A Proven Winner: Join a hyper-growth company trusted by over 10% of the Fortune 500 and a dozen of the Fortune 100.
  • The Relay Culture: Work alongside 250+ team members in an amenity-rich Raleigh campus (fitness center, sports courts, cafeteria). We’ve cultivated a culture of empowerment and engagement, where every employee is encouraged to do their best work. We call that “Best Work In My Life” (BWIML).

You’ll ramp up quickly, work across a broad and interesting tech stack, and have a direct impact on hundreds of thousands of physical devices in the hands of frontline workers.

Our technology spans cellular communication, embedded systems, voice processing, Linux, AOSP, app development, and AI — giving you broad exposure that’s rare at the associate level. This is a great opportunity for someone early in their career who’s genuinely excited about how hardware and software come together, and who wants to solve real problems for real people.

What You’ll Do

  • A self-starter mindset with a genuine curiosity about how hardware and software systems work — and fail.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage your own workload with minimal oversight.
  • Clear, effective communication skills — including the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders — and a collaborative approach to working across teams.

Nice To Have

  • Experience with Android development or familiarity with AOSP.
  • Exposure to cellular technologies or mobile network protocols.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (Python, Bash, or similar) for test automation.
  • Experience writing or executing test cases for embedded or hardware systems.
  • Prior work with any version control or CI/CD tools (Git, Jenkins, etc.).

Engineer Associate Machine Learning Engineer at Kargo

Build and maintain ML training, inference, and serving pipelines that power production systems for auction optimization, outcome prediction, and content recommendation at programmatic scale.

Junior Hybrid Posted 19 days ago RemoteFirstJobs Product
What this role involves

Who We Are

Kargo creates powerful moments of connection between brands and consumers to build businesses. Every day, our 600+ employees work to radically raise the bar on what agentic AI, CTV, eCommerce, social, and mobile can do to deliver unique ad experiences across the world’s most premium platforms. Taking a creative science approach to all we do, we continuously innovate solutions that outperform industry benchmarks and client expectations. Now 20+ years strong, Kargo has offices in NYC, Chicago, LA,  Dallas, Sydney, Auckland, London and Waterford, Ireland.

Who We Hire

Techies who want to build the future. Creatives who want to design it better. Communicators to win business. Collaborators to build it. Data pros who turn numbers into insights. Product builders who turn ideas into innovations. Anyone eager to be on a team that doesn’t stop to ask what’s next, because they’re already building it.

Mission

Build and maintain the ML training, inference, and serving pipelines that power Kargo’s auction optimization, outcome prediction, and content recommendation systems. This role takes models from data science prototypes into production environments where they directly influence bid pricing, pacing, CTR prediction, and audience targeting at programmatic scale. Success means reliable, observable, and continuously improving ML systems that move revenue metrics.

This is a hybrid role requiring onsite presence 4 days per week.

Outcomes — What Success Looks Like in 6–12 Months

  • Production pipelines shipped: Independently own the deployment of at least 2-3 ML models into production (batch or real-time), including training pipelines, inference endpoints, and monitoring — with documented latency, throughput, and accuracy SLAs met.
  • Inference reliability improved: Reduce model serving incidents or latency regressions on owned systems by a measurable margin (e.g., p99 latency, error rate, or successful retraining cadence) compared to baseline at start of tenure.
  • MLOps infrastructure contributions: Deliver meaningful improvements to shared ML infrastructure — CI/CD for ML workflows, feature pipelines, model registry, or monitoring tooling — that other engineers and data scientists adopt.
  • Cross-functional model launches: Partner with Data Science and Product to productionize at least one revenue-impacting model (auction optimization, CTR/viewability prediction, or recommendation) with clear before/after business metrics.
  • Operational ownership: Establish monitoring, alerting, and retraining workflows for production models you own, with documented runbooks and minimal escalations to senior engineers for routine issues.

Skills — Core Technical Capabilities

Required:

  • 2-4 years building and deploying ML systems in production; strong Python (C++ a plus)
  • Hands-on experience with ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar) across the full lifecycle: training, evaluation, deployment, monitoring
  • Working knowledge of AWS (SageMaker, EC2, Lambda) or comparable cloud ML services
  • Proficiency with large-scale data tooling — SQL, Spark, and Snowflake or equivalent warehouse
  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines for ML workflows and model serving infrastructure (logging, versioning, lifecycle management)
  • Solid grasp of feature engineering, data processing, and debugging production model performance issues

Preferred:

  • Experience with model serving frameworks (Triton, FastAPI), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), or IaC tooling
  • Exposure to AdTech, real-time bidding, LLMs/embeddings, or other high-scale distributed systems

Competencies — Behaviors We Like to See

Production Mindset

  • Thinks beyond model accuracy to latency, cost, reliability, and observability from day one
  • Writes code and pipelines that other engineers can run, debug, and extend without hand-holding

Cross-Functional Translator

  • Bridges data science intent and engineering reality — can push back on a model design that won’t scale, and explain why in terms a PM understands
  • Comfortable pairing with data scientists to harden prototypes and with platform engineers to integrate into the broader stack

Bias for Shipping

  • Defaults to small, instrumented launches over large, unmonitored ones; iterates on production signal
  • Unblocks themselves on ambiguous problems and asks for help with a clear hypothesis, not a blank slate

Operational Ownership

  • Treats models as living systems — sets up monitoring, owns the on-call when something drifts, and follows through on retraining
  • Documents what they build so the next person (or the next quarter’s Lanissa-era hire) can pick it up cleanly

Engineer Site Reliability Engineer I at EarnIn

Site Reliability Engineer designs resilient systems, defines SLOs/SLIs, and manages observability tooling to ensure safe and rapid production deployments.

Junior Hybrid Posted 19 days ago RemoteFirstJobs Product
What this role involves

About EarnIn

As one of the first pioneers of earned wage access, our passion at EarnIn is building products that deliver real-time financial flexibility for those with the unique needs of living paycheck to paycheck. Our community members access their earnings as they earn them, with options to spend, save, and grow their money without mandatory fees, interest rates, or credit checks.

We’re fortunate to have an incredibly experienced leadership team, combined with world-class funding partners like A16Z, Matrix Partners, DST, Ribbit Capital, and a very healthy core business with a tremendous runway. We’re growing fast and are excited to continue bringing world-class talent onboard to help shape the next chapter of our growth journey.

POSITION SUMMARY

We have a real passion for delivering the best product experience for our community members. We work closely with all teams and share responsibility for rapidly delivering production-ready features to our community. We build or contribute to infrastructure, reliability tooling, and practices that help teams ship quickly and safely. We think a lot about things like good alert hygiene, friendly runbooks, clear SLOs, and how to make deployments feel boring in the best possible way. As an SRE, you are a well-rounded practitioner in designing, observing, and operating our systems in production. Rather than following established playbooks, you are starting to write them. You work with confidence across observability tooling, incident response, and infrastructure-as-code, and you know how to communicate tradeoffs clearly to the engineers and teams around you. This position will be hybrid, based in our Bengaluru office, with 2 days a week required in the office, as part of our expanding site. EarnIn provides excellent employee benefits, including healthcare, internet/cell phone reimbursement, a learning and development stipend, and opportunities to collaborate with and travel to our Palo Alto HQ and Bangkok Site. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. We are unable to provide visa sponsorship or immigration support for this position. We are unable to provide visa sponsorship or immigration support for this position.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Design systems with resilience, graceful degradation, and capacity in mind.
  • Define and measure SLOs and SLIs that actually reflect what our customers feel.
  • Use Datadog (logging, metrics, APM) together with CloudWatch to build signal-heavy, noise-light observability.
  • Configure alerting and routing that reach engineers through incident.io, where we run incident management and on-call, so that when a human gets paged, it really matters.
  • Continuously improve our incident lifecycle, from fast detection and solid triage, through clear communication, to blameless, actionable follow-ups.
  • You will combine solid software fundamentals with reliability thinking so our systems are highly available, easy to debug, and a joy to work on. You know that the only good 2 a.m. alert is the one that never fires in the first place.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • You have a software background and a genuine curiosity about how large-scale systems behave in production.
  • You ask good questions, document what you learn, and share it back with the team.
  • You are calm under pressure, excited to learn from incidents rather than fear them, and willing to be on-call.
  • You collaborate well and believe that transparency and documentation make teams stronger, not slower.
  • You are genuinely excited about AI, not just as a productivity tool, but as a platform for building smarter, more autonomous SRE operations. You build with it, validate what it produces, and push its limits responsibly.
  • You believe observability is fundamental, not optional, and you want to understand the ‘why’ behind every alert.
  • You are a quick learner who adapts to new technical environments and is comfortable with ambiguity.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • 1+ years of hands-on experience in an SRE, DevOps, or Software Engineering role (internships count).
  • Coding proficiency in Python, Go, or a similar language; automation experience is a strong positive signal.
  • Some exposure to cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with monitoring concepts: you have worked with metrics, logs, or traces and want to go deeper.
  • Awareness of SLOs and SLIs as concepts – you understand why reliability matters to end users, not just to ops teams.
  • Active, enthusiastic use of AI productivity tools (Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) for coding, debugging, and infrastructure work. This is a non-negotiable baseline: all engineering roles at EarnIn require AI fluency.
  • At least one example of using an LLM or AI agent to automate a task or accelerate debugging. A personal project, internship deliverable, or coursework example is fine.
  • Eagerness to build agentic AI workflows: automating alert-to-Slack pipelines, drafting postmortem summaries, building runbook bots, or similar. You know this is the future of SRE, and you want to be at the front of it.
  • Clear, honest communication: you update your team on blockers, share what you learn, and ask for help without hesitation.

#LI-Hybrid

At EarnIn, we believe that the best way to build a financial system that works for everyday people is by hiring a team that represents our diverse community. Our team is diverse not only in background and experience but also in perspective. We celebrate our diversity and strive to create a culture of belonging.
